Gulmarg is a one-day trip at the standard per-day rate. The cab picks you up in Srinagar in the morning, waits at Gulmarg for as long as you are there, and brings you back the same evening. An overnight in Gulmarg is simply two days of the same rate, with the driver's night halt included.

From Srinagar you leave on the Baramulla highway, turn off at Narbal and climb through Magam and Tangmarg. The last 13 km from Tangmarg is the pretty part — hairpins through pine forest with the valley opening below. Allow 1.5 hours in good conditions, up to 2 in winter when the Tangmarg–Gulmarg stretch may need chains (our drivers carry them from December). The road is open all year.

No operator can — the local union does not permit outside vehicles beyond the Gulmarg taxi stand. From there it is a 10–15 minute walk or a local vehicle to the gondola.
